Digital Literacy
2.1.1 Collecting Reputable Digital Resources Quest
In doing my web-based walkabout I found numerous sites that are valuable to educators. However, we must be vigilant to remember to check all sites for :
1. Authority- who is the author of this site?
2. Accuracy- is the information reliable? Credible? Valid?
3. Purpose- when was this article, site, info published? Is it timely?
4. Audience- who is this site targeting?
Be careful and mindful of what is on the web- you can get sucked in to unreliable and "shady" sites.
If you are looking for scholarly sites and reports stay away from ~ in the web name- this generally means it is a personal blog site. Which will lead to more opinions than facts.
I also had no idea about DNS- I really found this quite interesting and realize this can help me tremendously when searching and "googling" results come up. This can save be a ton of time and stress to know that....
- .edu (education)
- .gov (government)
- .mil (US military)
- .org (may be a non-profit organization)
The following sites I found to be very helpful for me in teaching gifted teachers or working with gifted students and parents.
